Social Media in the Workplace
As a small business one of the dilemmas, we constantly face is the ever-evolving world of social media. What do we go with and what do we not bother with.
Experts out there tell you ideally you need to be on all social media platforms, Facebook, Insta, Tik Tok, LinkedIn, Twitter now called X etc etc…. which is great if you are a large company and have a team dedicated to working on this daily however it makes it more difficult when you are a small business. So, we ask the question what is valuable to the business in terms of social media.
Each platform has different audiences and different ways to interact:
Facebook – ‘With Facebook’s approximately 3 billion monthly users, according to Statista, no other social network can offer your business a matching level of potential exposure. As the largest and first social media network to achieve mainstream success, Facebook offers more integration tools than other platforms…….. These tools can lead customers back to your business website and other online content you want to highlight.’
Instagram – ‘Instagram is an extremely versatile and powerful marketing tool….. Instagram is no longer just a photo-sharing app. It has added many features to help businesses market and sell directly through the app. Customers respond much better to visuals than text, which makes Instagram a hub for marketing opportunities’.
Tik Tok – ‘it creates a fun and interesting way for customers to interact with your business. It makes following a company much more enjoyable than just reading about what the company does on social media…..Because of its unique format, TikTok is also a very effective platform for advertising products…..Unlike other social media sites, which have typically valued sound-off capabilities and captions, research has found that sound is essential to the TikTok experience….TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms out there. Since its launch, TikTok has over 1 billion active users across the globe’
LinkedIn – ‘the well-regarded business and employment-focused social media platform. With 50 million weekly personal and professional LinkedIn users, the platform presents opportunities to find jobs, recruit talent, publish and share content, promote products and services, and much more.’ https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/10376-linkedin-for-business
X (formerly Twitter) ‘the social media company founded in 2006, is now ubiquitous via its posts—formerly called tweets—on the Internet and all forms of media. It’s best known for news-breaking tweets from politicians and celebrities, but it provides a platform for millions of users to publish their thoughts, interact, share content, and read breaking news.’ https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers
As each business large or small is unique it therefore has different requirements for what it wants to gain from using social media. Some businesses are simply looking to reach out to people this can be to a general audience or business to business. If a business is trying to boost brand awareness, then this could be the focus. A business may be wanting to showcase its products or services and let customers know what they sell, or a business could just want to interact with its customers. Some will be wanting to use it for observing competitors or for recruiting or networking with other businesses. Therefore, as each company has a different want or need, they will probably favour certain social media platforms over others.
At Full Circle we like engaging with our staff, trying to keep them entertained and provide any news, so for this we use Facebook regularly and since we joined, we have built up a good following. All the office staff are on LinkedIn and have their own profiles along with our business page, this is great for networking with other businesses and great to see when other businesses in our area are doing well and to see them show casing their achievements; we are all in favour of supporting local businesses. We recently joined the world of Tik Tok and have started posting some light-hearted videos! We have been using X for a while and this really helps us know what’s going on in the world!
We are a small business, and we are trying to keep up with the ever-evolving social platforms, we have built a good level of following on our pages so a big thanks to all that do. However, we are always keen to have new subscribers join our social pages, so please if you aren’t already following us then we would ‘👍’ you to do so 😊
